Owner's word
Welcome to Alexander House!
We call it a club hotel because that is the relaxed atmosphere that my wife and I wanted to create when we decided to open our own hotel.
The elegant building in which the hotel is situated was built at the beginning of the 19th century for a prosperous St Petersburg merchant. During the reconstruction of the building, my wife and I spent a lot of time making sure that we were restoring the building as close as possible back to its original appearance. For example, we found the design of the shutters - which give the hotel a very 'European' 'look' - in the original architect's drawings.
We knew when we first found the building that we wanted our hotel to be unlike anything else in St Petersburg. That is why every one of our 19 rooms is different. We think that good design is important because it helps people to unwind. People also like space and large bathrooms, and that is what you get. We offer an old world comfort, with a modern service. All of the rooms are equipped with satellite TV, telephone and high-speed internet.
Most of our rooms let you enjoy the beautiful views of the Kryukov Canal, the Fontanka River and both the Nikolsky and Troitsky cathedrals.
The hotel is in an historical area of St Petersburg known locally as the soul of the city, in which the heroes of the books of Gogol, Pushkin and Dostoevsky used to live. It is only a 20 minute walk to Nevsky Prospect, and along the way you can pass the apartment where Raskolnikov lived.
Most of all, my wife and I want you to think that the Alexander House is your home from home. We are both of us always in the hotel, and always happy to sit with you and to talk about your plans in the city. Our staff speaks good English, and I know that they will also do everything they can to make sure that you enjoy your stay with us so much that you will want to come back.
We look forward to seeing you in our hotel.
Sincerely, Alexander Zhukov
